Science Writing
As a freelance science writer, my stories have been published outlets including Slate, Scientific American, and Discover magazine, and I’ve worked with organizations like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Public Library of Science (PLOS). In addition to my writing, I’ve been an invited speaker at UC Berkeley and elsewhere, presenting on topics such as clinical trial recruitment and how scientists can be better communicators.

Articles with NHGRI
With the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of NIH, I wrote and edited press releases, blog posts, video scripts, social media content, educational resources, and other materials about genomics research, technologies, and the future of health. I helped NHGRI reach audiences ranging from elementary school students to scientists and doctors at the tops of their fields. I also served as the lead editor for The Genomics Landscape, a monthly newsletter for genomics professionals.

Public Library of Science (PLOS)
As a contract freelancer for PLOS, I write press releases about scientific studies published in their open-access journals. Topics I’ve written about for range from biodiversity and the beginnings to life to social media and global affairs, all translated into short, digestible articles designed for a general audience.
